The service delivery system for those recovering from mental illness continues
to transform across our commonwealth. VAPRA is planning an exciting
conference with workshops relevant to both professionals in the mental health
field and persons in recovery. Join us as we continue to face the challenges
of change.
Opening Sessions, Dec. 15, 1:30: Opening Session : We will be honored to
hear from James W. Stewart, III, Commissioner of the Department of
Behavioral Health & Developmental Services. We are also pleased to
have James Martinez, Jr., the Director of the Department of Mental
Health give welcoming remarks at the opening session.
Keynote Speaker: On Thursday morning, Dr. Daniel Fisher will be
our keynote speaker. Dr. Fisher, the co-founder and Executive Director
of the National Empowerment Center, will share his inspirational journey
from an individual with a diagnosis of Schizophrenia to one in recovery.
Dr. Fisher’s life work has been greatly impacted by his experience with
mental illness; from his decision to earn an MD from George Washington
University and receive training as a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical
